what we do

HRC provides services to our clients in various areas of need: community support, work and education, rapid response, SacPort groups, older adults, community resources, intensive services, medication support, counseling, support groups, and language and interpretation.

Community Support

  • Assisting with housing needs, such as locating subsidized housing (Section 8, Shelter Plus Care)
  • Locating apartments, board and care or room and board homes. Advocating with landlords as appropriate
  • Money management, budget planning, payee services

Work and Education

  • Referrals to Crossroads and Department of Rehabilitation
  • HRC Employment Group and volunteer opportunities
  • Locating continuing education programs at vocational schools, adults schools, community colleges, California State University-Sacramento

Rapid Response

  • Assisting people recently released from Sacramento County Treatment Center with support and comfort, and outreach services

SacPort Groups

  • Facilitators use modules to increase skills in conversation, symptom management, medication management, recreation and friendship. Clients can learn to interact with each other, their service coordinator and psychiatrist, and with others in the community.

Resource Specialists

  • Two service coordinators work with our older adult clients, providing services specifically geared to them:
  • Assistance with entitlements such as Supplemental Security Income, Social Security, General Assistance, MediCal, Medicare, others
  • Linking with community resources: food closets, low-cost counseling, primary care physicians, dentists, other service providers

Medication

  • Psychiatrists work with clients to find the best medications to assist clients in their recovery
  • Nursing staff work with psychiatrists and clients to make sure clients receive medication, and to assist with questions and issues
  • Compassionate Care program: Clients without insurance may receive medications at no cost if they meet income and other eligibility requirements

Counseling

  • Individual and group therapy is available from licensed and license-eligible therapists and student interns
  • Low-cost counseling is available outside of HRC. Ask for a list of services in the area.

Group Services

  • Clients may choose from a wide range of groups
  • A list of current groups and schedule are available under the "Events" section of the website and at the HRC lobby
  • Orientation is available for those who have completed an intake session with the service coordinator

Language Capabilities

  • HRC strives to offer services that are culturally competent. Our staff members speak Spanish, Russian, Hmong, Cantonese, Vietnamese and English.
